Living out your life for the Lord everyday is not always easy to do. The absolute hardest part is making a consistent habit of spending time with God each day.
Like any Christian, I know the struggle. I would find myself in a dry season, knowing I needed to press into my relationship with God, but I couldn’t seem to figure out where to start or how to fit Him into my day.
Until I learned these few habits that watered my faith everyday as a Christian, which is what I’m sharing with you here!
In this blog post, I will be sharing the 5 habits I learned that brought me out of a dry season of my life and helped me develop a lifestyle that waters my faith in God everyday!
I’ll be covering:
How God Has Watered My Faith During a Dry Season in My Walk with Him.
How starting each day in prayer will transform the quality of your life.
How taking the time to memorize scripture will be your greatest weapon against the enemy in this season.
How using a planner will increase the chances of you actually making time to spend with God each day.
How going on prayer walks throughout your week will uplift your heavy spirit.
How reflecting on your day through prayer and journaling every night will improve your growth as a Christian.
So, if you’re tired of feeling spiritually dry, are ready to press into the season that you’re in, and root yourself in the Word of God in order to move forward and water your faith as a believer in Christ, you are in the right place! This is about to change your life for good.
How God Has Watered My Faith During a Dry Season in My Walk with Him
Why You Need to Water Your Faith in Christ
Just as God has designed all living organisms to develop and grow over a span of time, so does our faith in the Lord.
It takes daily watering and exposure to sunlight in order for a seed to get the nutrients it needs, root itself in the soil, and grow into a flourishing and fruitful tree.
God has designed plants to be dependent on these things in order to grow.
In the same way, we are to be dependent on God to water our faith, so our spiritual growth will flourish and we can live fruitful lives!
“The Lord will guide you always;
He will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land
and will strengthen your frame.
You will be like a well-watered garden,
like a spring whose waters never fail.”
— Isaiah 58:11
A few years ago, I felt like I was the opposite of this '“well-watered garden.” Like a freakin’ desert, I was in desperate need for something to quench my thirst because deep down inside my soul was so dry and empty.
I struggled to live with any sense of direction and real purpose, chasing aimlessly after anything in this life to satisfy me.
All people are searching in empty wells for something to fulfill them that only God truly can.
He is the Living Water! And we were made to thirst for Him, to be dependent on Him in all things! We can only grow and move forward through Christ.
That is why Jesus said, “Whoever abides in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing” (John 15:5).
I was desperate, so I sought the Lord in my dry season, and that is when everything changed!
My life was no longer about becoming something myself, but knowing the One who has made everything!
As I grew in my faith in Christ and rooted myself in His Word, I developed at least five primary habits that taught me how to live my life with Him and for Him everyday!
This is what got me out of feeling purposeless and instead of seeking after things in this world in order to cope, Prayer has now become my main coping mechanism.
Spending time with God everyday has given me endurance to keep moving forward through every season of my life!
So here is exactly what I learned and how to implement it yourself! This is exactly how to allow God to water your faith in Him in order to make the most of your life as a Christian.
5 Habits You Need to Make the Most of Each Day as a Christian🪴
1. Starting Each Day in Prayer Will Transform the Quality of Your Life
Challenge yourself to wake up with God being the first thing on your mind every morning. Before you pick up your phone and scroll on Pinterest, surrender the day to the Lord, so that you may live it out for His purpose!
When you begin your day in prayer, you allow yourself to take a moment and realize you’re not living out this day alone. You will become more aware of the Holy Spirit that dwells inside of you and allow Him to guide you throughout this day. By doing this every morning, you are training yourself to refocus your thoughts on spending your day with and for God, instead of for yourself.
So before you get out of bed tomorrow morning, begin your day in prayer, see how doing this will transform your relationship with God, and never waste a day in your life!
Start each Morning, with this Outline, Praying over these 6 points:
Thanksgiving: Start your prayer thanking the Lord for a fresh beginning! Rejoice in the fact that His mercies are new every morning! Thank Him for your relationship with Him, for His unconditional love for you, and for all that you have, in which He has given you!
Guidance: Ask God for His Holy Spirit to lead you and guide your thoughts, words, and actions during this new day. Ask Him to make you more aware of His presence. And pray that you may become more sensitive to His Holy Spirit, so that you can hear His voice more clearly throughout your day. Finally, ask for the Lord to guide you through every decision you must make throughout your day.
Provision: Along with praying for God to guide you, ask Him to provide all of your needs for the day. God longs for us to be dependent on Him for everything, so ask Him to provide all of your physical needs, such as food, gas, and money, for the day. As well as this, pray and ask for God to provide your spiritual needs, such as motivation, energy, perseverance, and the fruits of the Spirit, during your day.
Surrender: Take a moment to be completely honest with God. Tell Him about your genuine fears of this new day, and surrender all of the things that are worrying you. In this moment, counter every fear and every worry with Truth of WHO YOUR GOD IS. Remember that the battle you’re fighting today is not yours to fight. Surrender it all to the Lord who fights for you!
Repentance: As you are remembering who God is, make sure to acknowledge that He has conquered your greatest enemy, and put all of your guilt and shame to death! Acknowledge your weaknesses to God and take this next moment to repent of the sins that are currently weighing you down. As Christians, we must always acknowledge how weak and imperfect we really are, in order to truly understand how Holy and Perfect our God really is!
Rest in Forgiveness: After you have Acknowledged your sins to Him, ask for His forgiveness and Christ’s Righteous to wash over you! As a believer, you are already forgiven of all of your sins! Now after you acknowledge the convictions of your sins, it is time to truly believe that you are forgiven! Remember that Jesus has put all of your sin to death once and for all! He has paid YOUR debt in FULL! Let go of any of the guilt and shame you bear because Christ has already bore it for you on the cross! And He has washed you in His Righteousness! Remember that you are going to Heaven, not because of anything you have done, but because Jesus Christ has made you Righteous in God’s eyes!

2. Actually Taking the Time to Memorize Scripture Will be Your Greatest Weapon Against the Enemy During this Season
The devil’s main goal is to stunt your growth in the Lord, so you may lose faith in Him, forget who you are in God’s eyes, and ultimately turn your back on God. He is trying many things to deceive you and make you think you don’t need God. But God’s only aim is so that you may truly know and receive the fullness of life, which only come through Him and Salvation through Christ Jesus!
In John 10:10 Jesus says, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
In order to counter Lies from the enemy that will drift you away from the Truth, YOU MUST KNOW THE TRUTH. Memorizing scripture will be one of the most watering things you can do to nourish and grow your faith in the dry season and absolutely every season!
Start by picking short, impactful verses that speak to areas where you doubt, struggle, or where you need God’s strength. You can find them throughout your regular Bible reading or search the internet for a verse that applies to what you’re needing. If you search up a verse, make sure you go to your actual Bible and double check that the verse isn’t taken out of context in the Bible!
Write the verse(s) down on a piece of paper, and place it somewhere you can see it and repeat them daily. Make sure to take time to pray over these verses and meditate on their meaning. Over time, the truth of these Scriptures will take root in your heart, allowing the Holy Spirit to bring them to your mind in the moments you’ll need them most, in order to combat lies of the enemy!
As you memorize and declare God’s Word, you not only strengthen your faith but also remind yourself of the authority and victory you have in Christ everyday! With Scripture as your sword, you can confidently face any lie the enemy tries to throw your way and replace it with the True Word of God!
The most effective way for me to memorize new Bible verses is to write them in my Daily Faith Planner; which I will tell you more about… :)
3. Using a Planner Will Increase the Chances of You Actually Making Time to Spend With God Each Day
In order to consistently grow in the Lord, we must make time for Him everyday! Getting yourself a planner will definitely make sure that you are organized with your day, allowing you to specifically set aside time to spend with God!
Life can get real busy real quick, and sometimes it’s easy to push spiritual time with God to the back burner, especially with everything else on your plate. But by intentionally blocking out time for prayer and reading your Bible during your day, you’re prioritizing your relationship with God.
It’s a simple yet powerful way to ensure that no matter how full your day gets, you have always set aside time to connect with Him.
As soon as I started doing this, I became more consistent in my relationship with God! This allowed me to become more organized with my day and plan ahead. If I didn’t have time to read my Bible during lunch, I could make sure to schedule time to read after dinner!
When it comes to spending time with God, you do not have to do the same thing every day. Just like any other relationship, you try new things together in order to better enjoy your time together. Having a planner helps me plan different ways to spend my time with God. For example, Tuesday: Read Next Chapter of James, Wednesday: Fast & Pray all day, Thursday: Listen to Bible Podcast on the way to work... and so on!
Get creative! Get a planner, and make the most of your time with God everyday!
Here’s the Planner that I use to plan out my time with God everyday! I promise you, this will increase your discipline and consistency in your Faith!
4. Going on Prayer Walks Throughout Your Week Will Uplift Your Heavy Spirit
Going for a walk is something I don’t get to do everyday but nearly three times a week. Get some fresh air, take time to let your mind slow down, learn to be content and grateful for all that is around you! As you walk, you can either listen to some calming Christian worship music, or in silence, listen to the nature and sounds around you. Another thing I might do is listen to a sermon or a podcast based on a topic I’m currently struggling with or book of the Bible I’m currently studying.
As you walk, take the time to pray. You can pour your heart out to God, expressing your struggles, fears, and gratitude. Just moving and breathing in the fresh air, honestly, invites a sense of peace and clarity. It’s an opportunity to not only pray but also reflect on God’s faithfulness and acknowledge His presence in the moment. Prayer walks can become a sacred time alone to release burdens and experience spiritual renewal.
Going on a walk like this is a great way to unwind and reset your spirit and your body, actively taking yourself away from the chaos of your day and spending time with the Lord!
I use my Daily Faith Planner to schedule when I go on my prayer walks. This, honestly, keeps me so organized and ensures that I make time to spend alone with the Lord throughout each day.
5. Reflecting on Each Day Through Prayer and Journaling Every Night Will Improve Your Growth as a Christian🪴
Are you ready to be transformed?!! Doing this every day is what I believe helped me really take in every fiber of the dry season and grow beyond all that I was struggling with.
When you end each night in reflection of your day, you can acknowledge all of the moments that glorified God the most and what glorified Him the least.
Journaling provides a space to process your thoughts, emotions, and challenges, allowing you to track how God is working in your life. In doing so, you will become more aware of how you live your life because you intentionally look back at your day and ponder on what you did, what you said, and even what you thought about throughout the day.
While you're reflecting, look for whatever doesn’t sit right with you, or more importantly, what doesn’t sit right with God, and CHANGE. Pray that you are able to make a better decision next time, respond more politely to that difficult person next time, and so on!
PRAYER IS KEY🔑
Make sure, as you journal, pray about all of the parts of your day that did not go so well and thank God for all the parts that did!
Reflecting on your day through prayer and journaling every night can be a transformative practice for your spiritual growth! Before you go to bed tonight, pray to God, recognizing His presence in both the highs and the lows of your day.
Doing This Everyday Changed My Life! And it Will Change Yours!
Once I learned these five habits and implemented them into my daily life, I finally begin to feel spiritually filled in even the driest season of my life.
I began moving forward and no longer allowed anything that comes my way stunt my faith and my growth in the Lord!
